Walk a Marathon participants

Walking a Marathon

Dec. 18 was the final day of the Hawthorn Middle Marathon, in which students were challenged to walk 26.2 miles by holiday break. On specific days from October to December they walked approximately two miles from 2:15 to 3 p.m. either outdoors or in the Middle North hallways. They tracked their miles with a punch card. On Dec. 18, the last day of the walk, students received certificates and prizes. The Hawthorn Middle Marathon is a free program sponsored by Hawthorn schools and the Vernon Hills Park District.

Time to Make Gingerbread Houses

Middle School North’s Garden Club held a special holiday event on Dec. 17.  They invited students from several other programs to make gingerbread houses. Ms. Herman showed the students how to piece together the frames for the houses. Then the students had fun decorating their houses with icing and colorful candy.

Time to Tie-Dye T-Shirts

It may be cold outside, but the Garden Club at Middle School North is still busy with fun projects. On Monday, they learned how to tie-dye shirts. They didn’t use just any colors; they used Hawthorn blue and gold. With the help of Ms. Silvertrust and a volunteer, each student created a one-of-a-kind colorful t-shirt that they can wear with Hawthorn pride.
