Hawthorn Cancels Fall MAP Testing

Due to technical problems with the new NWEA MAP testing system, Hawthorn will not administer MAP tests to our students this fall. Please read here for more information.

Student Council Says, “It’s a PINK OUT!”

Student Councils asks everyone to wear Pink on Wednesday, Oct. 16th to support Cancer Awareness Month!

Ms. Roche’s Assembly Line Project

Ms. Roche’s social studies class learned about the moving assembly line, so they had one in class on September 26th.  They had five students in the assembly line verus one student creating the product herself.  They learned that it is faster when you have multiple people working on creating a product.  Five students: 4:05:09 vs. one student 5:18:44

Advisory Activities

Mrs. Stahl and Mrs. Ring’s 8th grade advisory groups are working on a community service project in conjunction with the Countryside Fire Department.  Each student is creating a digital comic strip emphasizing fire safety.  When finished the completed projects will be printed,  bound in a book, and delivered to the residents of The Park in Vernon Hills by Fireman Tony.

All of the girls did a great job. If your number is listed above please meet Coach Hayes in the cafeteria Monday, September 30th from 2:45-3:15 to go over expectations and receive your uniforms!


To those girls who did not make the team this year- please keep trying! There are lots of other opportunities for you at Hawthorn. Poms clinics and tryouts are next week (9/30-10/4). There is also a Dance Club that will meet for practices and perform at pep assemblies. We hope to see you next year at tryouts!

Grand Classroom Student Trip to The Grand Canyon

It was great seeing some parents come out to the Grand Canyon Informational Meeting! We need at least 10 students to sign up (and are almost there) in order for the trip to be a go so make sure you do as soon as possible! If you are worried about the deposit fee, don’t be. If we do not go on the trip you will get it back! You can register online at     or you can see Mr. Reardon for a registration form!”

Time to Register for MN Mania!

Middle North’s Mania is coming Friday night, November 1st from 6 – 8 p.m.  It is an “Open School” night where you can pay $8.00 or $7.00 and a donation of 2 cans for the local food pantry.  This gives you admission to Open Gym, Inflatable Bungee, A Rockin’ DJ, a make and take it craft, bingo, an airbrushed temporary tattoo among other things.  See the printable permission slip and flyer for more information.

Battle of the Books Has Begun

6th Grade Applied Tech

6th grade Applied Tech students busy playtesting video games that their classmates have designed.  After a game is playtested, the designer can improve it based on the playtester’s feedback.  See them in action:
