All Eyes on You

Hawthorn Middle School North has gone the way of the military by purchasing a drone for its school. Thanks to a gift last spring from its student council, the middle school can now fly the unpiloted aircraft over sporting events, monitor parking lot activity and even make sure students get to class on time.  Principal Robert Collins and a couple of other staff members operate the aircraft from their cell phones and iPads. While it can hover 1,000 feet in the air, the operators take it to a maximum height of 300 feet where they can get clear video and snapshots of school activities.
